Lyricist Maya Govind passes away after prolonged illness

Govind has written numerous songs for more than 350 films and music albums along with several TV serials in the 80s

New Delhi: Renowned poet, writer, and lyricist Maya Govind, who wrote songs for more than 350 Hindi films, passed away on Thursday, 7 April.

For the past few days, 80-year-old Maya Govind was not keeping well. She was admitted to the hospital in January this year due to blood clotting in the brain.

Later, she was discharged from the hospital and was undergoing treatment at home itself.

Previously, her son Ajay Govind had told news channel ABP News that his mother Maya Govind was not keeping up well with the treatment. Due to lung infection and blood clotting in the brain, she was admitted to Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, but the treatment was being neglected and she again got her treatment started at home. Her condition remained critical for the past few days.

For the unversed, Maya Govind is a well-known writer, and poet and has a special connection with the Hindi film industry. She has written songs for more than 350 films and music albums along with several TV serials in the 80s. She has also been honored with many prestigoius awards.

Maya Govind was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in 1940. She started her career as a film lyricist. Her collaboration with over 350 films include songs like ‘Sautela’, ‘Razia Sultan’, ‘Bal Brahmachari’, ‘Aar Ya Paar’, ‘Garv’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Main Khiladi Anari’, Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Lal Badshah’ and ‘Yarana’.
