Man accuses Ranbir Kapoor of hurting religious sentiments while celebrating Christmas, video goes viral

In the viral video, the actor was heard saying “Jai mata di” before igniting a Christmas cake

New Delhi: A police complaint was filed against actor Ranbir Kapoor for allegedly provoking religious sentiments in his recently dropped Christmas celebration video.

In the complaint, filed by two acclaimed advocates of the Mumbai High Court Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, the complainant demanded the police to book the Animal actor under sec 295A, 298,500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code 1860 (IPC) for hurting their religious sentiments. However, as of writing this, the Mumbai police have not registered any FIR against the actor related to the matter.

Ranbir Kapoor’s controversial Christmas video

It all started when a video of Ranbir’s Christmas Day celebrations started doing rounds on the internet. In the viral video, the actor was heard saying “Jai mata di” before igniting a Christmas cake that had wine & liquor all over its surface.

Besides Ranbir, the video also saw several other members of his family & a few friends chanting “Hai Mata di” Right before the 44-year-old actor sets the Xmas cake on fire.

While referring to Ranbir’s act in the viral video, the complainant claimed that in Hinduism, the god of fire, or Agni Dev is called upon before worshipping any other Deity.

However, Ranbir, with a deliberate intention of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus lit his Christmas cake while chanting Jai mata di (Hail the goddess) at the same time. He further alleged that the actor’s delivery made his video go viral for provoking & insulting their religious beliefs.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranbir is currently busy basking in the massive success of his recently released crime drama Animal which has turned out to be a massive blockbuster at the Box office. Besides Ranbir, the film also cast Tripti Dimri Rashmika Mandanna & Bobby Deol in impact roles. It was released on the big screen under the banner of on 1 December.
