Moonrise OTT Release: The highly anticipated Japanese sci-fi anime series, Moonrise, is scheduled to premiere globally on April 10, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.

Directed by Masashi Koizuka, known for his work on Attack on Titan Seasons 2 and 3, and produced by WIT Studio- Moonrise boasts character concepts by renowned manga artist Hiromu Arakawa.

Plot

A futuristic world where Earth and its lunar colony exist in a fragile state of tension. Moonrise presents a gripping tale of conflict, power struggles, and personal vengeance.

Society on Earth functions under the control of a loosely unified world government. This ensures order and stability through a Sapientia advanced artificial intelligence system. This AI-driven network governs nearly all aspects of daily life. It makes critical decisions in politics, economy, and security to maintain peace among Earth’s nations.

However, Sapientia’s vision for a harmonious world comes at a cost. In an effort to preserve Earth’s purity and enforce law and order, a controversial lunar development project is launched. This initiative involves forcibly relocating criminals, political dissidents, and environmental pollutants to the Moon.

Effectively turning it into a massive exile colony. Over time, the Moon’s population grows.

However, with limited resources and little support from Earth, life becomes increasingly harsh and desperate for the lunar inhabitants. Left in worsening conditions, they begin to view Earth’s rule as oppressive. Hence, deep resentment leads to a full-scale rebellion against Earth’s authority.

At the heart of this interplanetary conflict is Jacob “Jack” Shadow, a young man whose life is forever changed by a devastating tragedy. Jack loses his entire family in a horrific terrorist bombing orchestrated by the Moon’s rebel forces, an event that fuels his burning desire for revenge. Determined to strike back against those responsible, he enlists in Earth’s military and undergoes rigorous training, eventually becoming a scout assigned to a dangerous mission on the Moon.
