Plot
A grand narrative that chronicles the tumultuous ascent to power and subsequent fall from grace of Napoleon Bonaparte, the French Emperor, as seen through the lens of his unstable and addicted marriage to Josephine.
Napoleon Bonaparte, a young army commander during the French Revolution, saw the beheading of Marie Antoinette in 1793. The next year, Revolutionary commander Paul Barras appointed Napoleon to oversee the Siege of Toulon, which he duly accomplished by storming the city and using artillery to resist the British ships. Following the overthrow and execution of Maximilien Robespierre at the close of the Reign of Terror, Napoleon and other French authorities sought to restore order.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the dramatic historical epic Napoleon follows Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise to power and the lengthy French invasion campaign. His love affair with Empress Josephine, with whom he was passionate but also tragically involved, is also a major plot point of the film. In the film, Vanessa Kirby portrays Joséphine, while Joaquin Phoenix plays Napoleon.
