New Delhi: Evening of the last day of an year deserves to end on an extra special note. On the occasion of the New Year’s Eve, numerous parties, events and big to small gatherings will be held across the world to mark the farewell of the on going year and welcome the forthcoming year with a countdown in the last 10 seconds till 12 at midnight.

However, this year, governments in most of the countries have imposed several restrictions on the New Year celebrations owing to the ongoing pandemic, dampening the outdoor festivities amidst spikes in Omicron cases.

List for your movie marathon on New Year’s Eve: 

1. Mimi

Platform: Netflix

Kriti Sanon essayed the role of a young woman from Rajasthan who agrees to turn a surrogate mother to make some money in the movie. Pankaj Tripathi’s character, who works as a middle man in the film encourages her for surrogacy and stands by her side when things turned out the other way.  The movie is a remake of a Marathi film name Mala Aai Vhhaychy.

2. Atrangi Re

Platform: Disney+ Hotstar

The plot of the film revolves around a Tamil boy Vishnu (Dhanush), whose family gets him forcefully married to Rinku (Sara). The duo learns that they are not happy with this forced alliance and decide to part ways once they reach Delhi. However, a major twist occurs as Rinku is leaving with her boyfriend, which further reveals her past.

3. Don’t Look Up

Platform: Netflix

The comedy drama revolves around two astronomers who goes on a media tour to warn humankind of a planet-killing comet hurtling toward Earth. The response from a distracted world: Meh. The movie features Leonardo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the lead roles.

4. Minnal Murali

Platform: Netflix

‘Minnal Murali’ is a story of an ordinary man -turned-superhero Murali, who is struck by a bolt of lightning, which bestows him with special powers. Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan and Aju Varghese are also part of the movie.


5. Shershaah 

Platform: Amazon Prime Video

Based on the life of Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra has Sidharth Malhotra playing the lead role. The war hero was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously and played a pivotal role in India’s win against Pakistan during the Kargil war of 1999.
