New Delhi: The Malayalam film Neymar, starring Mathew Thomas and Naslen K Gafoor, premiered in theatres on May 12, 2023, and is now ready for its OTT debut. On August 8th, the film will be available to watch on Disney + Hotstar. The film’s story was directed by Sudhi Maddison, while the script and language were written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skariah under Maddison’s direction.

Plot
In the film, Kunjava and Sinto, two friends and avid football fans, are seen meeting a dog called Neymar, who changes their lives forever. The deep, emotional connections that people have with their animal companions are also highlighted. The capture of their dog by hardened criminals marks a turning point in the film. The two head off for Tamil Nadu, the neighbouring state, where they will face problems beyond their capabilities but are determined to bring their dog back home.

Review
The film did a good job of introducing us to Kunjava and Sinto, their families, and how Neymar-the dog changed their lives forever. The film sets up their lives and Neymar’s impact on them. The director’s ability to convey Neymar’s demeanour and range of feelings is remarkable. When the performance and Neymar’s actions are combined, the result is believable and touching.
