Nosferatu OTT Release: Robert Eggers’ 2024 adaptation of Nosferatu has garnered significant attention since its release. The film premiered in Berlin on December 2, 2024. It was widely released in the United States on December 25, 2024.

The film has also received critical acclaim, earning nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 97th Academy Awards.

Nosferatu is all set to premiere on the 20th of February, 2025 on Amazon video. 

Plot 

In the early 1800s, a young woman named Ellen, consumed by loneliness, calls out for companionship. Her desperate plea awakens a mysterious entity, Count Orlok. He responds to her summons, intertwining their destinies.

By 1838, Ellen married Thomas Hutter, and they resided in the German town of Wisborg. Thomas is a real estate agent. His employer Herr Knock tasks him with securing a property sale with the enigmatic Count Orlok in Transylvania. Despite Ellen’s unsettling dreams and pleas for him to stay, Thomas embarks on the journey, leaving her under the care of their friends, Friedrich and Anna Harding.

Upon reaching Transylvania, Thomas faces the locals’ apprehension towards Orlok. Ignoring their warnings, he proceeds to the Count’s castle. There, Orlok exhibits eerie abilities, and after a series of unsettling events, Thomas discovers bite marks on his chest.

A failed attempt to kill the Count forces Thomas to escape. He eventually finds refuge with Orthodox nuns who enlighten him about Orlok’s true nature.

Orlok’s fixation on Ellen intensifies. He confronts her, reveals that their fates are bound, and demands that she willingly submit to him within three nights. He threatens to kill Thomas and let the plague consume Wisborg if she refuses.

Von Franz uncovers that a pure-hearted maiden can vanquish the Nosferatu by willingly sacrificing herself. Determined to save her town and loved ones, Ellen conspires with von Franz to keep Thomas away. She invites Orlok to her chamber. There she reaffirms her pledge to him, and allows him to feed on her until dawn.

Eggers’ Nosferatu delves into themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the battle between light and darkness, offering a nuanced portrayal of the classic horror narrative.
