New Delhi: Films like Balagam, The Kerala Story, Zwigato, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani are in the running to be India’s official submission for the Oscars in 2024. The battle to determine which film would win has officially commenced.
The Oscar Committee has begun its selection process by holding multiple screenings in Chennai, and the announcement of the winners is anticipated to take place the following week.

Two Indian creations took home Oscars this year, making it a banner year for India at the 95th Academy Awards: Naatu Naatu song from SS Rajamouli’s RRR was named Best Original Song, while Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers was named Best Documentary Feature.

A source claims that this has given the filmmakers the confidence to go forward with the project, so they are now sifting through the country’s commercial, regional, and serious filmmaking.
According to reports published in Hindustan Times, a 17-member committee led by director Girish Kasaravalli has been evaluating all the submissions while attending screenings in Chennai. The committee has been given more than 22 submissions from various parts of India.
A source close to the development stated, “Some of the films, which have been sent to the Film Federation of India for Oscar selection, include names such as Anant Mahadevan’s The Storyteller (Hindi), Music School (Hindi), Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway (Hindi), 12th Fail (Hindi), Viduthalai Part 1 (Tamil), Ghoomer (Hindi), and Dasara (Telugu)”.
“The list might have additions such as Vaalvi (Marathi), Gadar 2 (Hindi), Ab Toh Sab Bhagwan Bharose (Hindi), and Baap Lyok (Marathi),” they added.
The screenings have been held in Chennai beginning on the 20th of September, and it is anticipated that a decision will be made by the end of this month.
