Patiala House Court summons actor Jacqueline Fernandez, directs her to appear on September 26

She is alleged to be a link in the Rs 200-crore extortion case in which conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar is an accused.

New Delhi: Delhi’s Patiala House Court issued a summon for actor Jacqueline Fernandez and directed her to appear in court. She is alleged to be a link in the Rs 200-crore extortion case in which conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar is an accused. According to the court, she has to appear in court on September 26.

On August 17, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) named Jacqueline as an accused. After pictures of the two surfaced on the internet, the actor was rumoured to be in a relationship with the conman. Jacqueline was last questioned by the agency in June in this case.

The actor has not made any public statement regarding the case, but in a response to the court through her legal team, the actor stated that her fixed deposits are from her own legitimate income and not from what was gifted to her by Sukesh. Her lawyer Prashant Patil also said that she was a victim in the case and should not be treated as an accused. He said, “You have to understand the humanitarian side of this. When any person is innocent, and if she is charged with a fake offence, it definitely is painful and not fair. Without hearing Jacqueline’s side of story, it’s not fair to prosecute her with such untrue allegations.”

ED alleged that Sukesh extorted money by cheating high-profile people including former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh. The agency also claims that he used that money to purchase gifts for Jacqueline. In April, the ED provisionally attached Rs 7.27 crore funds of the actor under the PMLA apart from Rs 15 lakh cash as the agency called these funds as ‘proceeds of crime’.
