New Delhi: The wait would be soon over for Ponniyan Selvan 2 fans. The mega Tamil epic by Mani Ratnam is all set to release this Friday. Ahead of the big release, team Ponniyin Selvan 2 is busy touring the nation to once again strike a pan-India success.

The Mani Ratnam film is a cinematic adaptation of a 1955 novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The two-part movie revolves around the Chola Empire and its internal conflict for power.

Considered one of the best historical Tamil novels, Ponniyin Selvan has been eyed by many filmmakers for many years.

The period drama is filled with complex and well-written characters, who all have interesting back story to them.

Let’s know who plays whom in Ponniyin Selvan 2:

1. Aishwarya Rai (Nandini)

Aishwarya Rai

Unlike her usual, Aishwarya Rai is the main antagonist of the Ponniyin Selvan franchise. She plays Nandini who is a Pazhuvoor Princess. While her origins are unknown, her childhood is spent with other Royal children in a priest’s household.

Her foster sisters are envious of her beauty, leading to rocky relationships between them.

She falls in love with Prince Aditya Karikalan. However, since no one in the royal family approves of their relationship, she is forced to move to Madurai. Things take a turn when Aditya beheads Veerapandiyan. This turns Nandini to join Pandya conspirators who want to overthrow the Chola Kingdom.

2. Vikram (Aditya Karikalan)

He is a renowned warrior and the crowned Prince of the Chola empire. While he is hailed because of his bravery and skills, his arrogance led to many people within the empire plotting against him.

3. Trisha (Kundavai)

Trisha plays the only princess of the Sundra Chola’s empire. Her character embodies knowledge and wit and she is respected by her father and others in the empire.

4. Aishwarya Lexshmi (Poonguzhali)

 

 

 

Queen of the ocean, she has mastered seafaring as she transports people between Chola Empire and Sri Lanka. She is brave but has her fair share of problems.

5. Jayam Ravi (Ponniyin Selvan)

Ponniyin Selvan, the premise of the story, is the youngest son of Chola King Sundara.
