New Delhi: Punjabi singer AP Dhillon threw the official ceremonial first pitch for the Canadian Major League Baseball team Toronto Blue Jays on the night of September 13. Toronto Blue Jays were facing Tampa Bay Rays at the Roberts Centre stadium in Toronto when the Dhillon, who is now based in Canada, got a chance to be part of the ceremony.
The Gurdaspur-born 29-year-old Dhillon rose to fame with his Punjabi pop numbers such as ‘Brown Munde’, ‘Fate’ and ‘Excuses’. He was seen at the stadium wearing the jersey of the Blue Jays, along with their mascot Ace.
The baseball teams in Major League Baseball and the American League have a ritual of a celebrity figure making the first ceremonial pitch ahead of every game. US Presidents have been part of this ceremony for a long time. Former US Presidents William H Taft, Barack Obama, Woodrow Wilson and 12 others have made the ceremonial pitches in baseball leagues. Even actor Tom Hanks was recently called for throwing the ceremonial first pitch for Cleveland Guardians.

During the first ceremonial pitch, the guest stands in front of the pitcher’s mound or on the mound in the baseball arena and throws towards the home plate with the recipient being one of the opposition players.
In the game, Toronto Blue Jays scored a 7-2 win over Tampa Bay Rays and AP Dillon shared a post on his Instagram handle to congratulate the team. He wrote, “Big win for the Jays tonight. Honored to be a part of it ??? #brownmunde.” In reply, Blue Jays wrote, “Honoured to have you here at the ballpark! Hope to see you again soon,” and also commented the lyrics of Dhillon’s song ‘Brown Munde’.
