New Delhi: Season 2 of Netflix’s hugely controversial, not to say obscene Rana Naidu will be a lot soberer. According to sources, the response has had a significant impact on the series’ directors. Seasoned actor Venkatesh, who has a large but conservative fan following, has received particularly harrowing criticism for his lewd character and violent sex-related lines.
Even renowned actress Vijayashanthi disagrees with Rana Naidu, advocating censorship for the OTT site without mentioning the series. To top it all off, Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, recently stated, “Abusive language in the name of innovation would not be condoned.” The government is taking the complaints about escalating abusive and obscene content on OTT platforms seriously. If any revisions to the guidelines are required, the government is open to accepting that “these platforms were given liberty for creativity, not obscenity.”
pic.twitter.com/6pOL66s88L

While Thakur did not identify any series or OTT platform, the statement appears to be in the wake of the backlash over Rana Naidu’s vulgar content. Given the tremendous criticism, the new season of Rana Naidu will be closely examined before it is released on the streaming site.
According to a source, “Rana Naidu is a huge hit on Netflix.” Why has it gone viral if people were so outraged by its content? So, no, the second season will not be canceled. But, yes, it will be significantly toned down.”
In the meantime, Netflix’s ‘Rana Naidu’ has now been getting popular since its official launch and has now taken four of the top fifteen spots on IMDb’s ranking of Popular Indian Celebrities in the week.
