The beloved romantic comedy, known for its charming characters, emotional twists, and humorous love triangles, is returning with a fresh batch of episodes that promise to deepen the story and deliver more of the heartwarming drama fans have come to love.

The fourth season of Rent-A-Girlfriend is set to premiere on major anime streaming platforms, with Crunchyroll expected to simulcast the episodes shortly after their Japanese broadcast in July 2025.

Plot

After experiencing a heartbreaking and humiliating breakup with his girlfriend, Mami Nanami, college student Kazuya Kinoshita is left emotionally shattered and desperate for comfort. In an attempt to fill the void and distract himself from his lingering pain, he turns to a rather unconventional solution—an online rental service that offers companions for hire. This leads him to Chizuru Mizuhara, a beautiful and poised young woman who works as a rental girlfriend.

At first, their encounter is purely transactional. Chizuru plays the perfect girlfriend during their initial date—graceful, kind, and attentive—but Kazuya, overwhelmed by his feelings of betrayal and loneliness, lashes out after discovering that her affectionate behavior was just part of the service. However, fate soon complicates matters. When Kazuya’s grandmother collapses and is admitted to the hospital, he impulsively introduces Chizuru as his real girlfriend to cheer her up. To maintain the illusion, Chizuru reluctantly agrees to go along with the charade.

What begins as a lie to comfort his family quickly spirals into a series of awkward and unexpected entanglements. Kazuya finds himself constantly needing to rent Chizuru in order to keep up appearances—not only with his doting grandmother, who becomes increasingly fond of Chizuru, but also with his friends and classmates, many of whom are drawn into the tangled web of their fake relationship. Each situation pushes them into deeper and more emotionally vulnerable territory, blurring the lines between pretense and reality.

As time goes on, Kazuya starts to see beyond Chizuru’s professional façade. He discovers her ambitions to become a stage actress, her struggles, her strength, and her kindness—all qualities that touch him deeply. Slowly but surely, what started as a temporary arrangement evolves into something far more complicated.
