Shah Rukh Khan’s security level upgraded to Y+ due to death threats

SRK has reportedly expressed concerns about receiving death threats. In response, the Maharashtra government has taken action to increase his security level to the Y+ category.

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan, a well-known actor, has reportedly expressed concerns about receiving death threats. In response, the Maharashtra government has taken action to increase his security level to the Y+ category. This move comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the actor and address any potential threats that he may face.

SRK’s security increased

As per ANI, quoting the Maharashtra Police, it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan had lodged a written complaint with the state government. The complaint stated that the renowned actor had been receiving threatening phone calls, posing a danger to his life, subsequent to the release of his movies, “Pathan” and “Jawan”.

According to sources cited by the Indian Express, the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID) had taken immediate action by notifying all police commissionerates, district police, and special protection units (SPUs) within the state. The communication, dated October 5, instructed them to heighten security measures provided to Shah Rukh Khan to the “Y+” category level with an accompanying escort scale.

The decision to increase security was prompted by recent and perceived threats that were deemed “imminent and probable”. Upon being upgraded to the “Y+” category, Shah Rukh would receive enhanced protection comprising a team of eleven security personnel. This team includes six commandos, four police officers, and a dedicated vehicle for traffic clearance. The police personnel will be stationed at Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s residence located in Mumbai.

On October 5, the state home department issued a letter to senior police officers and departments, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), regarding the security of actor Shah Rukh Khan. The letter emphasized the need to provide him with “Y+” category security and an accompanying escort scale due to recent threats. This security upgrade would remain in place until the high-level committee provides recommendations and the review committee makes a decision.

According to a senior police officer, the government took the initiative to enhance Shah Rukh Khan’s security as the officials from the review committee, responsible for assessing the threat perception to celebrities and determining police protection, were preoccupied with ensuring law and order during the festival season.

Under the revised police protection policy of the Maharashtra government in 2017, security is offered to private citizens, including celebrities, who face genuine life threats. These individuals are required to pay a fee in advance or provide a bank guarantee for availing protection from the Mumbai Police. Sources suggest that Shah Rukh will have to bear the expenses for the police security until a decision is made by the review committee regarding his ongoing protection.
