New Delhi: The FX network first announced the Shogun series in 2018. The English-Japanese drama series has been postponed many times, but it will eventually air in 2024.
Shogun is a work of fiction, yet it draws heavily on the Asian Saga novels written by James Clavell. Using Europeans as a prism, these books explore the meeting point of Eastern and Western civilizations and the transformational waves that result from them.
Both critics and viewers praised the show for accurately portraying 1600s Japanese society with all its subtleties. The book was lauded for its historically accurate depiction of samurai, geisha, and complex ceremonies; it was like stepping onto another planet.
Plot
John Blackthorne, an Englishman, is shipwrecked off the coast of Japan during a period of intense internal strife. Immersed in a brutal power struggle between warlords, he must master Samurai techniques and unravel a complex web of intrigue that might lead to his ascent to the highest rank or his downfall.
War scenes and thrilling naval adventures followed by shots of breathtaking landscapes and crowded towns are seen in the trailer. There are glimpses of murder, family strife, and powerful people bickering.
In Shogun, we see a stunning fight of desire, treachery, and the drive to live as East and West collide in a narrative of cultural collision. Witness a theatrical adaptation of a Japanese legend like you’ve never seen before with this series.
When and Where to Watch?
Shogun will soon be available on streaming services and television. On FX Network, the 10-episode series will premiere. On the over-the-top service Hulu, the series will make its premiere.
The premiere of the first two episodes is set for February 27, 2024, at 10 pm PT. Beginning on February 28, 2024, the series will also be available on Disney Plus Hotstar.
