The film stars Pooja Pandey and Vineet Kumar Singh in lead roles. Vineet is returning to films after acting in a popular web series ‘Rangbaaz’, while Pooja Pandey will be making her debut with ‘Siya’. The story revolves around a small town girl Siya, who decides to fight for justice. She, fighting against all odds, starts a movement against the vicious system. The movie deals with the theme of oppressive societal and state machinery that hinders justice. Even at the end of the teaser, Siya asks an important question, saying, ‘what’s the point of justice, if there’s no one alive to experience it?’ Even the tagline of the film reads, “We want justice.”
‘Siya’ is the first directorial venture for Manish Mundra, who has produced critically acclaimed films like Masaan and Newton. The film is being made under the banner of Drishyam Films.
Mundra, in a statement, told that the film will deal with the hypocrisy behind crimes against women. He also said he hopes that the audience understands the relevance of the film and wants them to speak out on the same. Talking about her character, Pooja Pandey said, “This role and character honestly takes a lot out of you emotionally and physically.” She also added that the story deserved to be told. Meanwhile, Vineet said that the story is based in India but the concern which is raised by the film is global.
The film is set to release nationwide on September 16.
