Conversing with News 18, Sonakshi revealed that Heeramandi’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had already informed her that people in Heeramandi are fluid & open-minded with Fardeen being no exception to the same.  To illustrate the point, the 36-year-old spoke about Indresh Malik’s gay character Ustadji, adding that the director wanted to explore it in different ways.

Meanwhile, commenting on the sexuality of her character, the Dabangg fame said that the hostile events of Fardeen’s life have played an important role in shaping her personality. She also recalled how Fardeen was sold off at the age of 9, citing it as a reason for her hatred towards men.

“She (Fardeen) was sold off when she was a nine-year-old girl. Maybe that’s why she absolutely hates men. They’ve left it very open. They didn’t explore it any further than that one scene where she meets Choudhary Saab and is with her maid. It’s just a very vast world and sir has tapped into different aspects of it in small ways,” said the actress.
