The Åre Murders OTT Release: The Åre Murders” is an upcoming Swedish crime thriller series set to premiere on Netflix on February 6, 2025.
The series is based on the first two books of Viveca Sten’s “Åre Murders” series: “Hidden in Snow” and “Hidden in Shadows.”
Sten, renowned for her “Sandhamn Murders” series, draws inspiration from the Åre ski resort, where she spent time during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. The cast for the series stars Amalia Holm, Kardo Razzazi, Carla Sehn, Charlie Gustafsson and Frida Argento.
Plot
Hanna Ahlander is a seasoned police officer in Stockholm whose life is in disarray. After a high-profile case goes awry, she becomes the scapegoat for the department’s failings. Hanna faces intense scrutiny from the media and her colleagues.
At the same time, her personal life crumbles as her long-term partner abruptly ends their relationship. Seeking solace, Hanna retreats to the remote Åre ski resort. There she plans to regroup and reassess her future. Her sister owns a cozy cabin in the town. She offers Hanna a quiet place to heal away from the pressures of city life.
The serene setting, however, is shattered when a teenage girl, Emma, disappears without a trace during a local winter festival. The town is plunged into fear. The police suspect foul play in the girl’s disappearance. With limited resources and an inexperienced local law enforcement team, Åre’s police chief reluctantly allows Hanna to assist in the investigation, given her expertise.
As Hanna dives into the case, she realizes that Åre is not the idyllic retreat it appears to be. Beneath the surface lies a web of secrets, betrayals, and tensions among its residents.
Hanna’s journey is not just about solving the case but also about confronting her own demons. The isolation of Åre and the high-stakes investigation force her to reflect on her past failures. Her tenacity, however, becomes her strength as she begins to rebuild her confidence and purpose.
