The Hijacking of Flight 601 OTT Release Date: The longest aerial hijacking in Latin American history to watch on your OTT screen

The Hijacking of Flight 601 OTT Release Date: The Hijacking of Flight 601 will be streamable beginning April 10, 2024.

New Delhi: The 6-episode historical thriller, directed by Camilo Prince and Pablo González, promises to be exciting and intense. A Colombian true crime series called The Hijacking of Flight 601, or Secuestro al Vuelo 601 in Spanish, is based on the real incident of a similar aircraft, and Netflix has released an official trailer for it.

May 30, 1973, was the day of the longest airborne hijacking in Latin American history, and it served as the basis for the series. 84 people were on board the hijacked SAM Colombia aeroplane HK-1274 on route from Pereira to Medellin.

Plot

The series provides a stark contrast by moving from insulated opulence to innate survival, set during a period when air travel was reserved for the wealthy and attendants and pilots were held in high esteem. This film delves into the day when two armed revolutionaries took onboard Flight 601 and threatened to detonate the bomb unless the Colombian government gave in to their demands.

The plane’s captain and two attendants must ensure the plane’s safety, hoodwink the skyjackers, and negotiate with Colombian authorities for their safety while the plane flies aimlessly with injured passengers and frustrated hijackers crowding the aerial aisles.

The show’s trailer gives viewers a sneak peek at the tragic story of courage, survival, and the political and social climate of 1970s Colombia.

The Original Story

Two ex-football players from Paraguay posed as insurgents to demand ransom; they were politically unaffiliated. At almost 60 hours long, it was one of the longest hijackings of its kind, both in terms of distance travelled and duration.

When two armed insurgents boarded Flight 601 in 1973 and demanded the release of fifty political prisoners and a large ransom from the Colombian government, the plane was threatened with explosion. The assailants began firing at a passenger each hour when the political leaders refused to compromise, forcing the jet to travel over Latin America.

While negotiating with local authorities, the captain and two brave flight attendants attempted to put down the hijackers.
