The series is based on the experiences of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who each depict a social misfit man with a loudmouth who is given a chance at a better life. The promise of a better life comes at a cost, and he must risk his safety to seize the opportunity. He has set out on a dangerous journey to deliver an unknown package to the post-apocalyptic wasteland, where his life or death might be at stake. The loudmouth stranger, aided by a vehicle thief, must fight off marauders and even clowns to deliver the package to safety.
Overall, the protagonist of Twisted Metal is an unrefined outsider who is granted a second shot at life in exchange for transporting a mystery box through a post-apocalyptic landscape.
