Veteran actress Sulochana Latkar passes away at 94, celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and others offer condolences

New Delhi: Sulochana Latkar, a veteran actress, died on June 4 at a hospital in Mumbai. She was 94 years old at the time. Sulochana is well-known for her roles in Shree 420, Nagin, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, and Mr & Mrs. Kanchan. On social media, several Bollywood celebs have expressed their condolences for Sulochana Latkar’s demise.

At the age of 94, she passed away at a Mumbai hospital. According to reports, the actress’s funeral will be held on Monday, June 5, at the Dadar cremation grounds.

In an interview with ETimes, Amitabh Bachchan recalled his on-screen mother, saying, “After Nirupa ji, she played my mother in most films.” Sulochana ji was a mother figure in the Hindi and Marathi cinema industries. I vividly recall the lovely handwritten letter she sent me on my 75th birthday. It was one of the most treasured presents I’d ever received.”

“Sulochana Tai was one of the most loved and graceful actresses cinema has ever seen,” Madhuri Dixit remarked on Twitter. Sangate Aika will always be my favourite of hers. Her work in every picture was memorable.”


Sulochana Latkar appeared in approximately 300 Hindi and Marathi films. Most Bollywood actors have her as their mother. Sulochana received the Padma Shri Award and the coveted Maharashtra Bhushan Award from the Maharashtra government in 2009. Among her many films are Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, Sujata, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Dil Deke Dekho, Aasha and Majboor, Nai Roshni, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Gora Aur Kala, Devar, and Bandini.

Her condition had deteriorated since March. She was hospitalised for three weeks before being released. Back then, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde agreed to cover all of her medical bills and also donated Rs 3 lakh to the hospital for immediate treatment from the Chief Minister’s fund.
