New Delhi: The much-awaited film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” directed by Karan Johar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, has finally hit the theaters, garnering immense praise from fans. The movie is being lauded for its portrayal of romance, family drama, and its humorous take on societal issues.
However, before its release, the chemistry between the lead stars Ranveer and Alia faced scrutiny and criticism from netizens. Now, director Karan Johar has stepped in to address these allegations and the comparisons drawn between the couple and the iconic pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
In an interview with Film Companion, Karan Johar responded to the earlier criticism about the chemistry of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the film. He defended the duo, emphasizing that they share a beautiful and palpable chemistry on screen. Expressing bewilderment over the negative remarks, Karan said, “Yeh kahaan se aaya mujhe samajh hi nahi aata, unki itni chemistry hai” (I don’t know where this came from, they have such brilliant chemistry). He pointed out that showcasing chemistry within just a couple of minutes is a challenging task.
Moreover, the internet has compared a specific hair flip scene of Ranveer and Alia with the iconic hair flip moment of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol from “Suraj Hua Maddham.” Reacting to this comparison, Karan mentioned that he did not initially notice the hair flip in question but later observed it. He acknowledged the incomparable charm of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as an on-screen pair and acknowledged that replicating their chemistry is an insurmountable feat.
Karan stated, “How can you live up to that? You can’t, right? But I still wanted to satisfy my urge to go to Kashmir and shoot a love song. Hoga comparison, of course, hoga. Maine hi woh gaane banaye hain, main phirse kar raha hoon” (Of course, there’ll be comparisons. I made those songs, and now I’m doing it again).
Despite the pre-release criticism, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” is now running in theaters, and fans have showered the film with love and appreciation. The chemistry between Ranveer and Alia that had faced scrutiny earlier is now being hailed by audiences, and the movie seems to be on its way to becoming a box office hit.
