500-bedded DRDO hospital opens in Srinagar for Covid-19 patients, has 125 ICU beds

The DRDO hospital is equipped with ICU beds, oxygen supply, lab equipments, portable X-ray machines. Accommodation for around 150-160 people have been arranged.

New Delhi: Augmenting the healthcare facilities in Jammu & Kashmri, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has built a COVID-19 hospital at Khonmoh in Srinagar. The facility is equipped with 125 ICU beds and oxygen supply.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated the 500-bedded hospital.


Speaking to ANI, Dr Anil Khurana, chief construction engineer, DRDO-Chandigarh said: “This facility was constructed in 17 days. This 500-bedded facility includes 125 ICU beds and 375 beds connected to a high flow oxygen pipeline. We also have 60 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen tanks here.”

Dr Anil Khurana also informed that the hospital is equipped with lab equipments, portable X-ray machines. Accommodation for around 150-160 people have been arranged.

He further said that the Covid hospital is fully under CCTV surveillance for security and other purposes.

Once the hospital gets fully operation, it will ease the pressure on other hospitals with Covid-19 patients as they will be shifted to this Covid-dedicated hospital.

Local people are also welcoming of the move as this will created local employment opportunities for local people.
