8 cheetahs being ferried to India in Tiger-faced plane, PM Modi to release them on birthday

PM Modi will welcome these cheetahs when he launches the Cheetah reintroduction project from Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park.

New Delhi: After the roaring success of Tiger conservation, the nation is moving ahead on yet another ambitious move to reintroduce Cheetahs in the wildlife and promote their growth.

The ambitious move to reintroduce the sprinting cats into India’s wildlife will take off on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17. PM Modi will welcome these cheetahs when launching the Cheetah reintroduction project from Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park.

These cheetahs will be released in their new abode – MP’s Kuno National Park by PM Modi on his birthday i.e. Sept 17.

Out of 8 Namibian cheetahs, 5 are females while 3 are males. After being flown from South Africa, they will be kept in cages before being released to jungles.

Tiger-faced plane that will lift Cheetahs to India

A post by Indian High Commission in Namibia today shared the photos of plane that will ferry the cheetahs.

“A special bird touches down in the Land of the Brave to carry goodwill ambassadors to the Land of the Tiger,” Indian embassy tweeted.

The plane Boeing 747-400 aircraft is tiger faced and will bring 8 cheetahs from Southern Africa. The customized plane is ready to lift them will full facilities inside the plane. All arrangements have been made for their safe transportation. They will reach Jaipur airport on Saturday morning and from there, they will be taken to Kuno National Park in helicopters.

Cheetas got extinct from India in 1952

Cheetahs were declared extinct from India, way back in 1952. As the nation looks to restore the extinct species, MP’s Kuno National Park will mark a fresh beginning.

And, supporting this initiative is the Indian Oil, one of the leading oil companies, which has pledged financial contribution of over Rs 50 crore for the restoration project.
