New Delhi: Eight cheetahs from Namibia have been brought to India’s Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh where they will be re-introduced after they went extinct in the 1950s. A specially customised B747 jumbo jet has been prepared for the transfer of wild cats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release these cheetahs into the National Park on his birthday on September 17.
PM Modi will be celebrating his 72nd birthday and the day has been chosen to mark the return of cheetahs in India, which were extinct for nearly 70 years. “A special bird touches down in the Land of the Brave to carry goodwill ambassadors to the Land of the Tiger,” the High Commission of India in Windhoek tweeted on September 14.
On the news of the cheetah’s arrival in India, netizens poured in their reaction on Twitter.

The air plan, in which five female and three male cheetahs are being brought, has been modified to fit in cages to be secured in the main cabin and allow vets to have full access to the wild cats during the flight. The aircraft has been painted with the image of a tiger. The plane will land in Jaipur and the cheetahs will be flown from Jaipur to Madhya Pradesh in helicopters.
