A look at 10 hot seats of UP poll race, most of them have turned saffron

Before the official list of winners comes, we have compiled a list of 10 hot seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly poll and the top 2 leading candidates.

New  Delhi: The complete results of winners on the 403 seats of the Uttar Pradesh assembly election are yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India. Before the official list of winners comes, we have compiled a list of 10 hot seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly poll and the top 2 leading candidates.

1. Varanasi South 

Varanasi South, the home of Kashi Vishwanath temple is one of the most prestigious seats in UP. It has been in the hand of the BJP for years. Neelkanth Tiwari is the current MLA from the seat. As per the official data, Tiwari is leading from the seat with 54% of the votes. Samajwadi Pary candidate Kameshwar alias Kishan Dixit is in the second position with 41.76% votes.

2. Varanasi North

Varanasi North is currently the pocket of BJP’s candidate Ravindra Jaiswal. According to the 2022 election poll status, Ravindra Jaiswal has so far acquired 63.78% votes followed by Samajwadi Party leader Ashfaque with 27% votes.

3. Varanasi Cantt 

At present, BJP leader Saurabh Srivastava is  MLA from Varanasi Cantt seat. He has so far garnered over 64% of total votes followed by SP’s Pooja Yadav with 22%.

4. Gorakhpur Urban

Gorakhpur Urban is a hot seat in the election as UP CM Yogi Adityanath is fighting election from the seat. CM Yogi has so far got 67% of the total votes. Samajwadi Party leader Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla is at the second spot with 22% votes.

5. Mau Sadar 

Mau Sadar seat is currently ruled by Mafia-turned-political Mukhtar Ansari on BSP’s ticket. In the 2022 assembly election, his son Abbas Ansari is fighting the election. The current status on seats shows Abbas is leading the seat with 52% of total votes, followed by BJP candidate Ashok Kumar Singh with 29% votes.

6. Zahoorabad

Zahoorbad is also an important seat as SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbahar is in the fray from here. Rajbahar currently holds the seat and is expected to repeat his win. In the 2022 elections, he is also leading the seats with more than 44% of the total votes. Kalicharan from the BJP is on the second spot with 29% votes.

7. Ghosi 

Ghosi is another hot seat in the election as former minister Dara Singh Chauhan fighting the election from this seat. BJP field Vijay Rajbhar against him. In Ghosi, there is a neck and neck fight as Chauhan is ahead of Rajbhar with 38% votes. Rajbhar has so far got 37% of the total votes.

8. Zamaniya

Zamanaiya is currently in hands of BJP’s candidate Sunita Singh. SP filed its veteran leader Om Prakash Singh in the 2022 UP election. It is likely that Sunita will lose the seat as she has so far received only 31% of the total votes. Prakash is currently leading the seat with 45% of the votes.

9. Mohammadabad

In Mohammadabad, BJP’s current MLA Alka Rai is in the fray against jailed don Mukhtar Ansari’s nephew Mannu Ansari. As per the current result status, Ansari is ahead of Alka Rai on the seat with 47% of the total votes. Rai has so far received 34% of total votes.

10. Pindra

BJP MLA Avedhesh Singh currently holds the constituency. In the 2022 assembly election, he is against Congress candidates Ajay Rai and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Babulal. The current result status shows Singh is at the top among the contenders with 38% of the total votes. Rai and Babulal have so far received 22% and 24% votes, respectively.
