New Delhi: While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gears up for upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat and hopes to challenge the ruling BJP dispensation, one of its ‘tall leader’ of the state is said to be involved in corruption.
AAP’s Ahmedabad President Jayantilal Mewada is facing charge of accumulating properties more than his income. He reportedly accumulated wealth & property amounting to Rs 300 crore while being posted in government service as Deputy SP.
A case was lodged against the AAP leader by a local resident Vilgiri Goswami in Modasa court. In the complaint, he alleges that the AAP leader brought about 24 properties & land in Bayad of Aravalli. Six members of the family including his wife, son & daughter have been named in the complaint.
The petitioner claimed that the Mewada joined Gujarat police as Sub-Inspector and during his elevation to Deputy SP post, he amassed huge wealth in various cities namely Gandhinagar, Himmatnagar & Aravali districts, disproportionate to his income. He further alleged that the Mewada joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to conceal the properties and also evade investigation into his disproportionate assets.
Jayantilal Mewada took the political plunge after retiring as Deputy Suprintendent of Police (DSP). He is likely to contest elections from Asarwa constituency of Ahmedabad. The complaint against him comes, after he reportedly filed a false affidavit during last Assembly elections.
