New Delhi: Days after Jehangirpuri riots rocked the national capital, an incident of clashes between two groups was reported from Welcome Area of North-East Delhi on Wednesday night. The police have arrested 3 persons and detained 20 persons till now, in connection with scuffle. Police said it was a minor scuffle that began with an altercation between children but escalated after families joined the fight. Police presence has been increased in the area.
A PCR call was received at about 9.50 PM at the Welcome police station, following which police personnel reached Photo Chowk area and settled the matter.
Sanjay Sain, DCP (Northeast) informed that it was a scuffle between small groups but as people assembled in large numbers, there was anticipation of communal clash. Extra force has been deployed in the area.
Days ago during Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra, Delhi’s Jehangirpuri area was rocked by communal clashes as a group of riots pelted stones and engaged in vandalism & arson. Vehicles & shops were also damaged in the clashes between two communities.
What led to Delhi clashes in Welcome area
The police received a call around 9.50 PM about fight between two children at Photo Chowk of the Welcome area. Local policemen were rushed to the spot. Within few minutes, the cops received another phone call about clashes & alleged attempt to communalise the quarrel. Senior police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of situation.

How the fight began & escalated
According to locals & eyewitnesses, a fight broke out between children playing in the park. Some children got into a squabble while playing, following which their family members reached the spot. Both parties, belonging to different community cursed each other and also took potshots at each other owing to separate political leanings.
