Ahead of Bihar by-polls, Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar trade bitter barbs

The latest verbal attack is from Lalu Yadav, who has replied to Nitish Kumar’s jibe directed at him. Lalu said that he does not need to do anything as Bihar CM’s deed will only be the reason behind his peril.

New Delhi: Ahead of the by-elections in Bihar slated for October 30, war of words has escalated between two party patriarchs Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar.

The two stalwarts of Bihar politics are engaged in volley of verbal attacks, with both taking caustic jibes at each other. Lalu Yadav-led RJD has upped the ante against Nitish-led JD(U) for the Assembly by-polls while the party supremo has launched a frontal attack on the Bihar CM for cementing party’s vote base.

The latest verbal attack is from Lalu Yadav, who has replied to Nitish Kumar’s jibe directed at him. Lalu said that he does not need to do anything as Bihar CM’s deed will only be the reason behind his peril.

“Humne kaha ki Nitish Kumar ki sarkar ka visarjan ho raha hai, Nitish bolte hain ki hum doli maar denge. Hum kyu tumhein goli marenge? Tum khud mar jaoge. He will be finished because of his own deeds. He betrayed us and sided with the BJP though the RJD had helped him return to power in 2015. His prohibition law is a sham,” Lalu said during the campaign trail in Tarapur.

A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar alleged that Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav could get him shot.

How the verbal spat began

The verbal exchanges began with the arrival of Lalu Yadav in the Bihar political arena, after a gap of almost 3 years.

After reaching Bihar, Lalu proclaimed that he will ensure ‘visarjan’ of Nitish Kumar and the NDA government in the state.

In reply to Lalu’s ‘Visarjan’ remark, Nitish said, “If he wants, he can get me shot. He cannot do anything else…. People have not forgotten the jungle raj in the state during his tenure. Let him say whatever he is saying. The NDA is winning both the seats.”

By-polls for 2 Assembly seats in Bihar

Tarapur (Munger) and Kusheshwarsthan (Darbangha), the two assembly seats are slated for by-elections on October 30. The by-elections were necessitated due to death of incumbent MLAs Shashi Bhushan Hazari (Kusheshwar Sthan) and Mewalal Choudhary (Tarapur), both from the JD(U).

Nitish-led government enjoys comfortable majority and by-polls won’t have a bearing but it will certainly be a message if RJD manages to turn the tide in its favour.
