Amravati chemist murder: Post-mortem report establishes death due to stab injuries

New Delhi: Umesh Kolhe, the Amravati based chemist who was brutally murdered on his way to home by some religious fanatics, died due to stab wounds sustained on the side of neck, said the post-mortem report.

The post-mortem report establishes the extent of injury sustained by him. The 54-year-old medical shop owner was attacked and stabbed multiple times by a group of men between 10 – 10:30 pm on June 21. He was taken to hospital soon after but he succumbed to grievous injuries.

The post-mortem report that became public says that Kolhe died of stab injury sustained on the side of neck and also due to spine-deep injury inflicted on him.

The findings clearly establish that the fanatics attacked him with some sharp weapon, with an intention to kill. The 54-year-old chemist was murdered on June 21 but the killing over ‘blasphemous’ post came to light recently.

Umesh Kohle shared a WhatsApp message, in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma, in a group named Black Freedom. A person named Yusuf Khan, also a close associated of Kohle, forwarded this to other groups of the community. Following this, the extremists reportedly plotted his murder and killed him on the intervening night on June 21 when he was returning after shutting shop.

Police have nabbed many culprits for being either directly involved or being complicit on the crime. Irfan Khan is said to be the mastermind while others namely Mudassar Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim (22), Shahrukh Pathan alias Badshasha Hidayat Khan (25), Abdul Taufik alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim (24), Shoeb Khan alias Bhurya Sabir Khan (22), Atib Rashid Aadil Rashid (22) and Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan (44) have also been put behind bars.
