New Delhi: On lines of Uttar Pradesh, the Assam government is gearing up to change names of its cities & towns contrary to its culture & civilisation. A proposal to bring about name change is underway and the state administration will soon launch a portal to seek suggestions from the local residents.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that those names which don’t reflect the historic significance & importance of town should be rechristened and local residents should be a ‘party’ to it.

CM Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to inform that the state government will launch a portal inviting suggestions for change of names of cities, towns and villages that are “contrary to our civilisation, culture and derogatory to any caste or community”.

According to a leading portal, Sarma said that Kalapahar in Guwahati was named after a Muslim general of the Bengal Sultanate. This General had attacked the Kamakhya temple and therefore it was important to correct the ‘historical blunders’.

“I have urged the local MLA to consult with the residents and suggest a name,” the leading quoting him as saying.

Sarma’s stinging jibe at Rahul

On the anniversary of Pulwama terror attacks, the Assam CM sparked off a major controversy as he said at an election rally, “have we asked about proof of who Rahul Gandhi’s father is?”

His caustic jibe at Rahul Gandhi led to big political fight with Congressmen taking strong objections to ‘distasteful & awful’ remarks.
