Big disclosures in Gorakhnath temple attack: Attacker Murtaza Abbasi was angry over CAA-NRC

People in the know-how of investigations said that Murtaza said that he harboured a desire to turn India into a Muslim nation.

New Delhi: Days after arrest of Gorakhnath Temple attacker Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi and his questioning by the UP ATS, skeletons keep tumbling out of the closet with the accused accepting his & accomplices role in the assault.

The accused was brought to Anti-Terror Squad headquarters in Lucknow and quizzed over his alleged design before attack and also links with other people.

During questioning, accused Murtaza has made several disclosures and also revealed the reason behind attacking policemen outside the Gorakhnath temple complex.

He said that recent legislations like CAA & NRC were biased towards Muslims and this was the prime reason. People in the know-how of investigations said that Murtaza said that he harboured a desire to turn India into a Muslim nation.

Talking about his angst against CAA & NRC, he said, “I was very disturbed over these legislations. Even in Karnataka, Muslims are being targeted. I thought this was the right time to take revenge for such hatred.”

How Murtaza executed the attack plot

Making disclosures about his modus operandi on the day of attack, Murtaza told ATS that he rode an auto and told the auto driver to drop him at Gorakhnath temple.

“I was thinking that I will attack the policemen & everything will be finished,” he said.

Murtaza’s father has already said that his son suffers from mental disorder and sought some relief from the government on this ground.

Operated WhatsApp group & went to Dubai, 6 months back

UP ATS has also recovered a passport from Murtaza Abbasi which shows that the attacker went to Dubai, 6 months back. He got this passport made at Mumabi, where he lived while working in a reputed private firm.

The interrogation also revealed that he ran a radical WhatsApp group and had many hatemongers who used to share inflammatory content for instigating hatred towards a certain community. Police have launched manhunt for these members of the WhatsApp group and are being nabbed by the UP Police.
