Bihar Assembly Election 2020: BJP appoints Devendra Fadnavis as state polls in-charge

Bihar Assembly Election 2020: Former Maharasthra CM Devendra Fadnavis has been appointed as the in-charge of state polls. He has been making visits to the state in last few days.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday appointed Devendra Fadnavis as in-charge of Bihar Assembly elections, the party said in a statement. The announcement comes after BJP President JP Nadda held talks with party leaders in the state.

Bihar is heading to polls, with 1st phase of polling on October 28. The 243-member assembly will be elected by November 10, when counting of votes takes place.

However, the three allies of NDA – BJP, JD(U) and LJP are still negotiating the seat-sharing with reports
suggesting that all is not in the alliance.

The LJP has been blowing hot and cold over the issue as it is said to be unhappy over the offer being made to it by the BJP.

However, BJP had made it clear a couple of times that the alliance will fight state elections in the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar.

BJP general secretary Bhupenda Yadav said on Wednesday, “the central leadership has appointed representatives to hold talks with allies. We will complete this process by tomorrow,” Yadav said after a party meeting.

This comes amid reports of confusion in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over seat-sharing in the state.

The Bihar assembly polls will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7, and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.

With Upendra Kushwaha’s party RLSP breaking away from Mahagathbandhan, it has now joined hands with BSP. This seems to be taking shape of a third front as opposed to ruling NDA and alliance of RJD, Congress and Left parties.
