New Delhi: In a redux of America’s Capitol Hill moment, India’s iconic and historic monument was taken over by the unruly and violent farmer protestors. The protesting farmers deviated from their designated route and entered Red Fort after clashing with police at ITO.

Many waved their own flags while hoisted two flags at the monument’s ramparts. A protestor went up the ramparts of the historic 17th-century monument and raised a flag he was carrying at the place where the Tricolour is hoisted.

According to visuals doing round on social media, protesters were seen going up the mast on the ramparts of the historic 17th-century monument and hoisting flags at the place where the Tricolour is hoisted.

The crowd swelled at the monument as some protesting farmers and ‘Nihangs’ (traditional Sikh warriors) were seen entering the Red Fort and hoisting a flag from the staff from which prime minister unfurls the tricolour on Independence Day.

They finally mounted two different flags at the post, which Delhi Police personnel tried to bring down but failed. Several people including police personnel suffered injuries during the clash between protesting farmers and police.

Groups of farmers were also seen vandalizing public property and targeting police personnel deployed for Republic Day security.

Farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws – Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
