Capt Amarinder’s birthday party attended by Cong leaders, sparks talks of switchover post results

The political corridor of Punjab is rife with reports of a couple of Congress leaders contemplating switching allegiance to Captain’s party. Predictions of Congress decimation in exit polls and their presence last night further emboldens this theory.

New Delhi: Ahead of Punjab Assembly election results, Captain Amarinder Singh’s birthday party three days in advance has fuelled talks of new alliance in the making. Captain had thrown dinner party at his farmhouse in Siswan on Tuesday night and it saw participation of leaders from the opposition camp including Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Captain was also seen crooning on the occasion of his birthday, which actually falls on March 11. It was the veteran himself who preponed the celebrations anticipating rush of activity after the election results are announced on March 10.

Adding glamour to the night, the Punjab Lok Congress founder also regaled the audience by humming Jagjit Singh’s ghazal. In the 1.5 minute video, the former Chief Minister also took a jibe at his rivals while wearing his trademark attire.

His wordings were like this, “Log zaalim hai har ik baat ka taana denge. Baaton baaton mein mera jikrr bhi le aayenge. Unki baaton ka jara sa bhi asar mat lena. Warna chehare ke taasur se samajh jaayenge, chaahe kuchh bhi ho sawaalaat na karana unse. Mere baare mein koyi baat na karna unse, baat niklegi to phir door talak jayegi.”

Cong leaders looking to jump ship to Captain’s party?

The political corridor of Punjab is rife with reports of a couple of Congress leaders contemplating switching allegiance to Captain’s party. Predictions of Congress decimation in exit polls and their presence last night further emboldens this theory.

Captain’s party fought the elections in coalition with BJP & SAD (Sanyukt). If AAP fails to clinch the magic number, Akali Dal may join hands with this coalition to stake claim for govt formation.

Though names of Congress leaders attending his party are not clear but a cryptic post by Captain’s spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal further set the political buzzing. He wrote, “Who were they who attended the party at Siswan? Any guess Congress and AAP? Be ready for the Shock! March 11 day of….”

Congress party in Punjab has been saddled by infighting, with different camps raising their voices within the party. Open differences between Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi & Punjab Cong chief Navjot Singh Sidhu are no secret.
