New Delhi: Indian government has released pictures and the blueprint of the new Parliament building being built under the Central Vista redevelopment project. According to reports, the building is likely to be completed in March 2023. Tata Projects Limited is working to build the new Parliament building.

As per the government website, the new building is being built because it is almost a 100-year-old building and the number of people working there and the visitors have increased, and to accommodate all Parliamentary activities, the government is working towards this redevelopment.

India’s present Parliament building, previously known as the Council House, was designed by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. There was an addition of two floors in 1956, and a Parliament Museum was constructed in 2006.

The foundation stone of the new Parliament Building was laid on 10 December 2020 by PM Narendra Modi. The new building will have an area of 64,500 square meters. The building was expected to be completed by October 2022 so that the Winter Session can be held in the new premise, but the delay led to the date being shifted to near March 2023.
