Centre announces to rename the Rajpath as Kartavya Path

In the latest development, the Central government on Monday announced to change the name of Rajpath and Central Vista lawns into Kartavya Path.

New Delhi: In the latest development, the Central government on Monday announced to change the name of Rajpath and Central Vista lawns into Kartavya Path. The objective behind the decision is said to shed remnants of the British colony in India. The decision came after a special meeting on September 7, convened with the aim of renaming the Rajpath and Central Vista lawns.

The name old is said to be Kingsway in simple meaning. It was named as such in honour of King George V. The decision also received a lot of appreciation on Twitter from many people.

On the development, a user wrote, ”Central Govt to change name of Delhi’s Rajpath to Kartavya Path. (Rajpath was a Hindi translation of ‘Kingsway’, the boulevard’s name during British rule, named after King George V).”

Another Twitter user said, ”Gone is the RAJ ! Kartavya Path the new name ! GREAT ! I had requested to change to Azad Hind Path but very happy at this as Kartavya too was Netaji’s slogan as Duty to Motherland!”

”One of the five pledges for Vision of India 2047 is uprooting all traces of colonialism and rightly so . The English translation of Rajpath means Kingsway,It was named as such in the honour of King George V, another trace of colonialism,” commented a third user.
