Chaos in Cong meet: Brawl over Councillor ticket distribution, workers come to blows (VIDEO)

The scuffle reportedly broke out as former Councillor Mohammed Saagir wanted to contest from the same ward but were opposed by Mahendra Singh Chouhan & his supporters

New Delhi: A Congress meet in Bhopal turned chaotic on Tuesday as party workers came to blows and engaged in fist-fight, the videos of which also landed on social media. The party had called a meeting to decide its candidates for the upcoming Bhopal Municipal Corporation elections.

In the video, many workers/volunteers can be seen hurling blows at each other while chairs were also flung during the physical altercation that apparently broke out over ticket distribution for contesting Municipal elections. Some members even used expletives to curse other faction.

According to party’s district chief Kailash Mishra, the fight started after the meet came to an end.

“Talks were over and bio-data of probable candidates were taken. However, some groups got upset with each other over some issue and got into physical fracas,” he said.

Facing string of defeats in elections, the party has brought in some changes in its election strategy & ticket distribution. Earlier, bio-data were collected & deliberations happened but now the senior leaders also do an inspection of the area to study the winnabiity factor of the finalised candidate.

The meeting was reportedly called to assess the ‘winning factor’ of candidates and this apparently worked as trigger for fight.

Cong leaders mum, ‘Outsider’ issue provoked fight

A couple of Congress leaders, when quizzed about the reason behind spat, maintained silence on the issue and chose not to speak.

Those representing ward numbers – 40, 41, 44, 58, 59, 69, 70 and 71 had gathered for the meeting. Reports suggest that issue of ‘outsiders’ was the trigger, as those from local regions objected to their candidature.

The scuffle reportedly broke out as former Councillor Mohammed Saagir wanted to contest from the same ward but were opposed by Mahendra Singh Chouhan & his supporters, claiming that they were ‘outsiders’ & hence not fit for candidature.
