Chief Ministers reduced to puppets, not allowed to speak in COVID meeting with PM: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

PM Modi had on Tuesday held a meeting with field officials from states and districts about their experience in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that Chief ministers are reduced to puppets and are not allowed to speak in COVID meeting with PM.

“If states were not allowed to speak why were they called. All the Chief Ministers must protest for not being allowed to speak,” said Mamata Banerjee on PM Modi’s interaction with DM’s of 10 States today.

She further said that, “We have reported 4 cases of Black fungus in the state.”

“Though the rate of vaccination is low in Bengal but our positivity rate is reducing. The fatality rate is at 0.9%:,” she said.

However, this statement comes after Bengal Chief Minister’s participated at the high-level meet comes after several such meetings being missed by her over the past few months.

On April 8, Mamata had reportedly skipped a meeting called by PM Modi to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state. This was not the first time the West Bengal Chief Minister has not attended a meeting convened by the Centre. Over the past few years, the West Bengal Chief Minister has on several occasions missed the meetings convened by Niti Aayog.

She had also skipped the meeting of chief ministers chaired by the Prime Minister on March 17 over growing cases of COVID-19 and the vaccination drive.

PM Modi today interact with the DMs and field officials of 10 States-Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh.

India reported 2,76,070 new COVID-19 cases and 3,874 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s data on Thursday.

As many as 3,69,077 discharges have been made in the last 24 hours, which is more than the daily cases reported.

The cumulative caseload stands at 2,57,72,400, including 2,23,55,440 recoveries, 31,29,878 active cases and 2,87,122 deaths.
