CM Rupani dedicates ‘lift irrigation pipeline’ in Surat, to irrigate about 49.5 acres land

Lift irrigation pipeline will benefit nearly 29,000 farmer families in 89 villages and a total area of 49,500 acres of Mandvi in Surat. In addition to that, it will also benefit 3 dams, 2 ponds, 6 ravines and 30 check-dams.

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani dedicated the ‘Kakrapar-Gordha-Vad Lift Irrigation Pipeline’ at Sathvav of Mandvi in Surat on Sunday. The pipeline is built at a cost of Rs 570 crores and will open new doors of irrigation in tribal areas of Surat.

The pipeline will benefit nearly 29,000 farmer families in 89 villages and a total area of 49,500 acres of Mandvi in Surat. In addition to that, it will also benefit 3 dams, 2 ponds, 6 ravines and 30 check-dams.

The pipeline is an engineering marvel. A stretch of 32 km mild-steel pipeline has been installed as a part of this scheme. A large number of villages in the tribal area of Mangrol are situated at a higher ground level in South Gujarat. This makes it difficult for the people to reap benefits of irrigation schemes.

It is to be noted here that the foundation stone of this scheme was laid in 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

500 cusecs of water were pumped through a 10 feet diameter pipeline from the first pumping station near Kakrapar Weir and a 368 feet diameter pipeline through another pumping station at Goddha for providing irrigation water from Mangrol to Vadgam.

During the event, the CM said, “The vision of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and the dedication of the state government has enabled us to witness an era where the government is spending Rs 570 crores on a single project. There were days wherein the Annual Budget was Rs 500-700 crores.”

The state government is firm in its resolve for tribal welfare in a transparent manner. The Chief Minister also added that the Government of Gujarat has dedicated various welfare projects worth Rs 25,000 despite pandemic. It shows the dedication of the government for ensuring the welfare of its people.
