CM Yogi flags off 520 mobile veterinary units under Livestock Health and Disease Control Scheme

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Livestock Health and Disease Control Scheme is beginning a new era in the livestock sector.

Lucknow: In a bid to help the farmers involved in animal husbandry in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday flagged off 520 mobile veterinary units.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Livestock Health and Disease Control Scheme is beginning a new era in the livestock sector. People involved in animal husbandry in Uttar Pradesh will now get better accessibility to veterinary healthcare services at their doorstep through mobile units.

He stated that beginning today, 520 mobile veterinary vans will be available to cattle rearers across all state districts. “We used to see that if an animal became ill, it could not receive timely treatment. If a cow got into an accident, it couldn’t get a doctor fast enough. Those animals will be able to be treated as a result of this. This scheme marks the start of a new chapter in Uttar Pradesh’s livestock protection and promotion.”

CM Yogi stated that, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inspiration, his government has made numerous efforts in the last six years to conserve and promote cattle. “Many programs were started by the state’s Animal Husbandry Department to bring change in the lives of ‘annadata’ farmers and increase their income, as well as protect the farmers’ crops.”

Yogi stated that the UP government is carrying out a large campaign for animal breed improvement in collaboration with the Government of India, and added that “More than 6600 shelters have been established in the state for the protection of destitute cattle.”

There are a total of 12 lakh cattle in the state, out of which the state government is responsible for protection of 11 lakhs, for which the government is giving Rs 900 per cattle, he added.

He went on to say that his government is running three types of schemes for the cattle protection. “Under the first scheme, approximately 10 lakh cattle are served in destitute cow shelters. The second program is the Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana. Under this, any farmer can keep up to four cows in his house, and the government will pay him Rs. 900 per cow per month through DBT. We are providing cattle to malnourished families as part of the third scheme.”

Yogi went on to say that milk produced by cattle rearers in the country previously was not sold in the global market because milk samples collected from sick animals failed in test. This is the first time that efforts are being made to protect these animals by eliminating diseases such as foot and mouth disease.

He added: “Our livestock farmers’ income is greatly increased by making their products available in the global market. Gobardhan Yojana has become a source of additional income for the farmers. Today, cow dung is used to make paint. The state government is launching a new program to boost this.

Stating that the government is promoting cow-based natural and organic farming in 27 districts on the banks of the Ganga in the state, Yogi said, “Under this, we are taking forward the action of farming on 1.25 lakh hectares of land. It is our goal to increase this, and we have included all seven districts of Bundelkhand in this effort.”
