Congress MP Abdul Khaleque claims Messi to be born in Assam, forced to delete tweet after netizens fact-check

New Delhi: Congress MP Abdul Khaleque shared a congratulatory post for Lionel Messi, only with bizarre information. The Congress MP claimed Messi of having an ‘Assam connection’ and then went on to claim that the Argentinian forward was ‘born in Assam’. However, he had to delete the tweet after a backlash from people for spreading fake information.

Assam MP Abdul Khaleque tweeted that he was proud of Messi for having a connection with Assam. When people questioned his ‘Assam connection’ tweet, he answered that ‘Messi was born in Assam’.

Twittariatis did not take much time to fact-check his fake information. After deleting his tweet, Khaleque went on to ask the netizens to check his social media handle before spreading rumours. But by the time he could write so, the screenshots of his deleted tweet went viral on the internet. As the screenshots were shared on Twitter, Khaleque became a laughing stock for the public.

While Abdul Khaleque tried to be among the politicians congratulating Argentina for their World Cup win, it just backfired due to the bizarre claim.

In the game last night, Lionel Messi scored two goals while Di Maria scored one to set the stage for Argentina’s victory. Martinez saving crucial goals in additional time and during the penalties anchored the historic win. Kylian Mbappe fought like a lone warrior and scored a hat trick to take the game into the penalties, where Argentina’s strikers and Martinez emerged to be better than the defending champions. Messi’s men took home the World Cup after 36 years.
