‘Cong’s only stand is to oppose PM’: Hardik Patel’s resignation letter sparks talks of switch to BJP

In his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, Patel was highly critical of Congress top leadership and accused them of ignoring people’s plight and furthering their own interests only.

New Delhi: Hardik Patel, the poster boy of Patidaar agitation in Gujarat on Wednesday announced his resignation from Congress, dealing a major to the blow party days after it held Chintan Shivir to keep the flock intact.

Patel resigned from the primary membership of party and reports suggest that he is already mulling his next move, which may be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This comes just months ahead of Assembly elections in Gujarat, slated for later this year.

Hardik’s searing remarks the Congress has added fuel to speculations of his switch to the saffron party.

“Be it building the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, revocation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, implementation of GST – India wanted solutions for a long time and Congress only played the role of a roadblock. When it came to issues related to India, Gujarat and my Patidar community – Congress’s only stand was to oppose whatever Govt of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji did,” Patel said in one-page resignation letter.

In his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, Patel has been highly critical of Congress top leadership and accused them of ignoring people’s plight and furthering their own interests only. He said that Congress leaders come across as non-serious and behave as if they hate Gujarat & Gujaratis.

“Whenever our country faced challenges and when the Congress needed leadership, Congress leaders were enjoying abroad,” he said in a clear dig at Rahul Gandhi.

The 27-year-old leader had joined Congress three years ago and was resentful of the high command for being ignored, sidelined & left out of the strategy meet for elections. He also didn’t attend Congress Chintan Shivir in Udaipur.
