Conspiracy behind communal clashes in Gujarat? 3 clerics hatched plot to incite stir during procession, says report

Many houses and shops were gutted in the arson that followed. The rioters went on rampage and torched many vehicles on streets

New Delhi: Amid speculations of co-ordinated planning & conspiracy in fanning violence at Ram Navami processions, for the first time, identity of some plotters have been confirmed.

According to a Hindi daily, 3 Muslim clerics hatched a conspiracy in Gujarat and it was they who laid out a detailed plan & plot to disturb the communal harmony.

On April 10, while procession was moving through 3 cities namely Himmatnagar, Khambhaat and Dwarka, they came under attack by members of minority community.

Khambhaat cops claim that 3 maulvis are under probe for instigating youths to pelt stones at the gathering. Two other persons also aided the maulvis in execution of the plot.

How the stone-pelting plot was hatched

According to local police, outsiders were also called in for inciting violence. The date and plot of instigation was planned well in advance. A day before the incident, stones were even stored in the agricultural fields and places were earmarked from where stones would be thrown.

On the occasion of Ram Navami, the procession which criss-crossed through Khambhaat city comprised of more than 3,000 crowd. As soon as the rally passed through Shankarpura area, miscreants started pelting stones at them. The attackers were hiding in the fields. This led to huge commotion and violence followed.

Many houses and shops were gutted in the arson that followed. The rioters went on rampage and torched many vehicles on streets. It was only when the cops reached the spot, the violence could be contained. A couple of rioters have also been taken into custody. An elderly person died due to injury while 15 police personnel were injured.

The simultaneous stone-pelting and incidents of arson at multiple Ram Navami processions across the country lent credence to the speculation that it was all scripted and planned in advance.
