New Delhi: Allegedly, a policeman stepped on and killed a newborn in Giridih, Jharkhand. The policeman was conducting a raid to arrest the newborn’s grandfather in an assault case when the incident occurred. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has ordered a probe into the death of a 4-day-old child as the news came out.

Deputy SP Sanjay Rana said that a newborn child was allegedly killed by a cop when the police team had gone to the house of an accused with a non-bailable warrant. He assured that the police are conducting investigations into the matter. Deputy SP said that the dead body has been sent for postmortem and they will take an action on basis of the postmortem report.

The deceased grandfather said that he managed to flee the location when police raided his house at 3:20 a. He alleged that the child was sleeping on a bed when the policemen stepped on the bed looking for him and crushed the child. The family members went in and saw the child dead.

The grandfather’s video with the statement went viral and CM Soren asked the police to investigate and report him.

According to Giridih Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra, prima facie the allegation seems to be false.

The matter got heated and also invited a political discourse. State Health Minister Banna Gupta condemned the incident and said that strict action will be taken. He added that the country runs according to the Constitution so action will be taken against the police officials as well.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and former CM Babulal Marandi asked for senior officers to investigate the case in place of the district SP so that there is no coverup.
