Cyber sextortion: Surat man loses lakhs after falling into the trap of nude woman on WhatsApp

Scared for his privacy, the victim succumbed to the scammers’ demands and gave them a total of Rs 5.65 lakh but even this didn’t stop them from blackmailing him further and demanding more money from him

New Delhi: In a shocking incident unfolded in Gujrat’s Surat, a diamond worker lost Rs 5.65 lakh rupees after being scammed by a girl he met on the internet.

It all started when the victim received a friend request from an account named Puja Sharma on the social media platform Facebook on August 13th. As soon as he accepted the Facebook friend request of Puja, the two quickly got along and started talking to each other on WhatsApp by sharing their personal phone numbers with one another.

As things between the two escalated further, Puja insisted the victim make a video call with her and told him that she would go naked on the same. After falling into her trap, the 32-year-old started the video call and learned that Sharma was indeed naked and soon, she told him to remove his clothes for her as well.

However, when the man went to his bathroom and got bare clothes, the accused girl hung up the video abruptly, leaving him confused & concerned. Following that, the victim received a phone call from an unknown man who started blackmailing him by claiming that he had recorded his naked video.

Accused booked under relevant sections of IPC & IT Act

A day after the incident, the scammed man got another video call from a scammer who claimed to be DSP Sunil who ordered him to speak with fake YouTube official Sanjay Singaniya and give him money for getting his naked video deleted.

Scared for his privacy, he succumbed to the scammers’ demands and gave them a total of Rs 5.65 lakh but even this didn’t stop them from blackmailing him further and demanding more money from him.

Finally, the victim, who just couldn’t pay the scammers anymore, reached his breaking point and knocked on the doors of Surat Cyber crime police, narrating the whole ordeal to the officials.

The police then immediately came to his assistance and booked all the accused persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code  (384, 170, 171, 507) & Information Technology Act.
