Cyclone Yaas: Mumbai airport cancels 6 flights to Bhubaneswar, Kolkata

New Delhi: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Wednesday cancelled six flights between Mumbai to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata due to Cyclone Yaas. It further said the flights to other regions will continue to operate as per schedule, the airport spokesperson said.

Landfall process of the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas centred about 50 kilometer south -southeast of Balasore began this morning. “Cyclone Yaas has complete the process of landfall. Rainfall will continue till tomorrow. Fishermen are advised not to venture till tomorrow morning because the sea condition going to be rough,” Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist at the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar told ANI.

At around 12:30 pm, the IMD informed that the cyclone was likely to move north-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a severe cyclonic storm in the next three hours, and into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent six hours.

Coastal parts of West Bengal and Odisha were hit with strong winds and heavy rain. The cyclone will reach Jharkhand tomorrow, according to the weather department.
