Delhi: AAP Councillor caught red handed while taking bribe, CBI unearths leader-hawker ‘nexus’

According to local reports, the CBI had given special coloured notes to the roadside seller, who was reportedly the ‘frontman’ of Geeta Rawat. The street hawker handed over the notes to EDMC councillor. When the CBI searched latter’s premises, they recovered the same coloured notes.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested Geeta Rawat, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor from East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on charges of corruption.

The EDMC councillor was apprehended by the CBI sleuths for allegedly demanding Rs 20,000 bribe from a person, under the table. The person sought her help in laying the roof of his building but was told by the AAP leader to pay ‘bribe’ for extending favour.

The councillor demand money from a person for extending him a favour. According to CBI sources, the money would reach Rawat through groundnut seller. After the victim filed complaint against her, the CBI launched probe and arrested the street vendor outside her office. Further investigation is in process.

Both the accused Councillor Geeta Rawat & the street hawker named Sanaullah have been apprehended and are being interrogated by the agency.

The BJP MP Pravesh Sahib Singh has slammed the AAP government over arrest and said that this proves that Delhi government is ‘submerged’ into corruption.
