New Delhi: A day after anti-encroachment demolition drive failed to take off in Shaheen Bagh, another neighbourhood locality New Friends Colony is all set to see bulldozers in action. Bulldozers were brought to the locality for removing series of illegal structures & encroachments on government land.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) officials will move out illegal land dwellers here and vacate the government land, illegally occupied by encroachers.

A large number of security personnel are deployed in the area for smooth operation of anti-encroachment drive. This comes in the backdrop of huge commotion that broke out in Shaheen Bagh area over SDMC’s demolition drive. Lot of locals accompanied by opposition party leaders assembled at the spot and opposed it tooth & nail while accusing the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of targeting a particular area for furthering its political interests.
Today morning, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) officials also carried out demolition in Mangolpuri area. Though it faced protest from locals & AAP leaders, many illegal structures were razed. AAP MLA Mukesh Ahlawat demanded that drive be stopped and the civic corporation must prove first that these are illegal encroachments.

“When people have vacated the area, why are they (North MCD) creating inconvenience to them by using bulldozers by surrounding them. We are against it and it should be stopped. They need to prove first that there’s encroachment,” Ahlawat told newsmen.
Delhi MCD is conducting planned anti-encroachment exercise in many parts of the city. First phase of this drive is from May 4 to May 13. While drive went off peacefully in most of the areas, Shaheen Bagh saw commotion & tumult for obvious reasons.
