New Delhi: Diwali celebrations are around the corner. This year, the festival of light will be celebrated on November 12. The nation is caught up in festive mood and the local markets as well as shopping malls are illuminated, paving the way for record retail shopping.
Brilliant performance by Team Indian in the ongoing World Cup tournament has added to the joy of a cricket-loving nation. The Men in Blue look well in command of the cricketing extravaganza and are just two steps away from lifting the coveted trophy.
Despite the ecstatic & joyous mood all across, the festival of lights fails to illuminate the lives of many impoverished & downtrodden Indians who live life of penury even during festive times. This has been a stark truth of the country for many years.
However, a large swathe of destitute population is now benefitting from various welfare schemes of Narendra Modi government. Ever since coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched many public welfare policies with special focus on very poor & marginalized class. A couple of the policies even hogged global limelight.
Notwithstanding the political fight, Modi government kept on rolling new rural-centric policies and went on strengthening the existing welfare policies. Over the years, many of the schemes have turned out to be gamechanger and are benefitting lakhs of Indians every year.

A brief round-up of welfare policies
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Under the Yojana, the government equips the low & moderate income class of the country in building their own houses by giving them financial help. Under the scheme, the govt had envisaged building up 2 crore homes by March 2022 and also hopes to extend this to full population.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana – This was launched in 2016 with an objective to supplant traditional smoky cooking with gas cylinders. This scheme met with tremendous success and was dubbed as a revolutionary step in safeguarding the health of crores of women in rural households.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi – This scheme, launched in 2018, gives farmers a minimum income support. Farmers are provided with Rs 6,000 financial assistance every year, with money being transferred directly into their bank accounts. The scheme also received global recognition from world bodies.
Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana – This is another flagship scheme of Modi government, launched with intent to nurture entrepreneurial spirit among citizens. People are given financial support for launching their own enterprise.
PMJAY – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY) is one of gamechanger schemes catering to the biggest population in the world. Citizens are entitled to Rs 5 lakh medical assistance under this scheme, the premium money of which is paid by the government itself.
UPI Payments – This is yet another revolutionary scheme of Modi government, aimed at changing the financial landscape of the country. Young population embraced the idea of digital payments and have become an active partner in e-journey.
